The River Deben is one of the finest estuaries to shape this Suffolk coastline.
A Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
The River Deben Estuary is designated as an EU Special Protection Area (SPA), also known as the Birds Directive, and is listed as a RAMSAR site. [Ramsar in Iran was where the nations of the world signed an agreement in the 1970s to sustain the feeding and roosting areas for migrating bird species in selected areas around the world]
Famously known for Sutton Hoo where England's oldest history (dating over 1300 years) was unearthed with the discovery of the ship burial of an Anglo-Saxon warrior king and his treasures. www.suttonhoo.org
Today these waters are alive with sails delivering the grandest of barges to the most modest of fishing smacks.
At Quayside the shore is yours to lap up the atmosphere...
You may choose to take to the water, fish from the quay, or just sit and be entertained.
Look out for the seals!

Suffolk is blessed with an abundance of Farm Shops, one of which is just 3 miles (door to door) in our neighbouring village of Newbourne. To tempt you, we include produce from Newbourne Farm Shop in your welcome pack.
Just 3 miles upstream is the ancient market town of Woodbridge - famous for exquisite shops, culinary delights and colourful people. And approximately 8 miles south east is the popular seaside resort of Felixstowe.
Day-to-day shopping is catered for at Martlesham Heath (approximately 3 miles by road). For more extensive shopping and entertainment, visit historic Ipswich and take in its maze of olde English architecture and industrious shipping roots.
